 One thing I like about studying media is that it changes the way I view and watch movies. It changes my view while watching movies by helping me to better understand what I am supposed to be taking off of a scene and what the film makers is trying to point out or portray based on camera angles and the semiotics used. One thing I am trying to get out of this is a credit towards my AICE Diploma. What else I want to get out of this course is the better understanding of film and the media around me in my daily life. Most of all I am excited to see what I will learn and how it will change my view on media as a whole.

 When I was watching the movie It, I noticed how they implement the scary introductions of Pennywise in the way of using shadows to implement the glow of his eyes which adds suspense to the reveal of Pennywise to each character. In this movie the producer uses many closeups to show the transformation of Pennywise's face as he transforms before biting/eating the kids or other characters. Another element used to invoke fear to the characters is the use of sound that the characters can hear but cant see such as the laughter of Pennywise and the other monsters.

A Quiet Place(2018)

While I was watching A Quiet Place(2018), I noticed that the producer never fully shows the monsters and keeps them off screen adding suspense and also build-up to when we see the full monster in all its might at the end of the movie. Also, this movie uses great sound design to add fear/jump scares, they do this by bringing us to Regan's perspective as she is deaf, this adds to the horror by us not being able to hear the surrounding area and what is going on in the back until the monster appears on screen.
